Joan Sratton portraitJoan uses her life experiences from the various environments where she has lived, coupled with her technical drawing experience to create her paintings and sketches.

She likes to experiment when painting and where possible use non-traditional methods of creating and developing her artworks. She blends the rich colours of the areas, often with local raw materials such as kaolin and bauxite which have been mined locally, to create textures and three dimensional effects to draw the viewer in and keep them looking.

She paints what she is feeling at the time and uses painting as a form of meditation.

She also enjoys writing children's books, peotry and novels, making jewellery and using clay to make masks. She sketches with charcoal, pastels and pencils, paints using acrylics, oils, watercolours and spray paints. With some of her works using all of these materials on the one canvas to produce the desired effect.

Art is a personal experience that is seen differently by people from all walks of life. With this in mind, Joan, through her work would like the viewer to be taken on a journey of experiencing his or her own feelings and thoughts on her works and how it may or may not speak to them.

As an alternative to purchasing an original painting,
Joan has a range of paintings available to purchase
as gallery quality prints on paper or canvas.
